Maths Schools is an independent, unaffiliated guide to the UK's specialist maths schools — the small network of state-funded 16-19 free schools that teach A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics in partnership with a university, plus the one privately-funded newcomer that sits outside that network entirely.

Why this exists

There are now twelve of these schools, nine of them open, and nobody had put them side by side in one place with consistent, sourced information. The schools' own sites are (understandably) marketing documents. The network body, U-Maths, represents the network's interests, not an individual family's. Nobody in this niche had an incentive to say plainly where the evidence is thin — so we built a site whose only incentive is to get the comparison right.

Independence

Maths Schools is not affiliated with, funded by, or endorsed by U-Maths, any university, any school listed on this site, or The 1729 Maths School. We don't take payment from any school to be listed or described favourably. Where we cite a school's own claims about itself (results, ethos, culture), we say so, and we distinguish that from independently-verified facts — see our methodology.

How this site is built

This site was compiled with AI-assisted research: an editor directed the research and every editorial judgement, and the underlying fact-finding — reading school websites, Ofsted reports, DfE records and news coverage — was carried out with AI research tools, with every fact checked against a cited public source. We think that's worth disclosing plainly rather than leaving vague, in keeping with the rest of this site's approach to sourcing. What we deliberately haven't built

We haven't built a lead-generation funnel dressed up as impartial advice, a fake "top 10 ranking" designed to flatter advertisers, or a comment section that would need moderating forever. What you see is what the site is.
