What's common across every maths school's admissions process, plus the exact requirements, tests and deadlines for each of the twelve.
The process, in outline
- Check eligibility — most schools now operate without a strict catchment boundary, but travel distance matters in practice. Use the catchment checker.
- Apply directly to the school in the autumn or winter of Year 11 — this is not a UCAS process. UCAS is only for university entry at 18.
- Sit the school's own admissions/aptitude test, almost always maths-focused and largely GCSE or Key Stage 3 content.
- Attend an interview if shortlisted — usually a mathematics discussion plus a personal/pastoral conversation.
- Receive a conditional offer, typically in the spring term.
- Confirm your place on GCSE results day in August, once your grades meet the offer conditions.
