Leeds Maths School admissions

GCSE requirements
Grade 7+ in Maths; grade 7/7 in Combined Science, or grade 7+ in the specific Physics/Chemistry needed for your chosen A-levels; grade 4+ in English Language; six GCSEs overall at grade 5+.

Subject notes
Plus two more from Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science or Mandarin Chinese in Year 12 (each taught 5 hours/week); most students narrow to one of these in Year 13 (3 A-levels total), some continue with all four.
Entrance test
"Mathematics Aptitude Assessment" (MAA) — a 60-minute, non-calculator written paper at GCSE Higher-tier level but less structured, requiring independent problem-solving.
Interview
A mathematical problem-solving interview with an LMaS teacher, plus a wider discussion based on the applicant's reference form.
Deadline
For September 2027 entry: applications open Monday 12 October 2026 and close Sunday 20 December 2026; admissions assessment days 6, 9 or 10 February 2027.
