Aston Maths School admissions

GCSE requirements
The school's own FAQ points to a predicted grade 8 or 9 in GCSE Maths (grade 7 predictions can still enquire); other reporting cites Grade 7+ Physics (or 7-7 Combined Science) and Grade 5+ English Language alongside it.
Required A-levels
Mathematics, Further Mathematics
Subject notes
Plus a compulsory third from Physics or Computer Science, and a fourth from the remaining STEM subject, Chemistry or Economics, alongside an EPQ and university-mentored research projects.
Entrance test
An online aptitude test assessing mathematical reasoning using only Key Stage 3/4-level content — no extra syllabus knowledge required.
Interview
Applicants who score well on the aptitude test are invited to interview at the school.
Deadline
Runs rolling admissions in "waves" rather than a single fixed deadline — as of July 2026 a fourth wave for September 2026 entry was still open. No fees: fully state-funded.
How to apply
See aums.ac.uk/admissions
Catchment
No published fixed catchment — the school says it recruits "from across the West Midlands (and occasionally beyond)."

What happens after you apply

Broadly: application → aptitude test → interview (if shortlisted) → conditional offer → confirmation on GCSE results day. See our general how to apply guide for what to expect at each stage, and admissions tests / interviews for detail on those two stages specifically.
