As of July 2024 the trust was still searching for a site "well connected to the university and the city centre," describing available council-owned sites as limited; no source found confirms a site has since been secured. The school's own About page says explicitly it "will update this section as the project continues to develop." University of Nottingham Maths School is a pre-opening member of the U-Maths network, planned in partnership with East Midlands Education Trust for a planned capacity of around 200 students. It was one of 44 unopened free-school projects caught up in a Department for Education review that paused progress from October 2024 to December 2025, and was among the 16 confirmed to continue when that review concluded.
